It is finally a fact despite the regret of the Barcelona people. Bullfighting has been a traditional sport for ages in Spain and particularly in Catalonia, however, this is coming to an end. Corrida shows would be banned from first January 2012 in Barcelona and the last show took place on 25th September 2011 when three of the best matadors in Spain killed six half-tonne bulls in front of a crowded arena.

The bullfighting shows are typical traditional event for Catalonia and its center is Barcelona - the city attracts many visitors who are just visiting the country to attend a bullfight. The sport shows are among the most anticipated events in the city and tickets for corrida performances are sold out just in days after their release. Despite importing the traditional bullfighting shows to Latin America, Spain remains the country that is mostly associated with it and the sport itself is a major event in the cultural life of the country.
However, the local parliament in Barcelona voted against the sport when considering whether a ban should be imposed. No need of special HR software is needed by the decision makers to estimate that the people involved in the corrida shows are decreasing so their decision would not impose hardship on people employed in this particular sector. Furthermore, most of the matadors (bullfighters) are employed in another place so their participation is more like a second income occupation.
The ban comes as a result of ’modernization'of the Spanish culture, as called by people unhappy with the decision. Animal cruelty associated with terror over animals is among the main reasons for forbidding the shows to continue. Additionally, killing an animal in front of such an audience might provoke a violent reaction among people, it induces the idea that the manifestation of strength is contained within the act of killing.
Unhappy with the decision, many Spanish people went on the streets silently expressing their dissatisfaction with the decision after the last show of bullfighting. Nevertheless, the ban remains official and would be a step towards building a more morally responsible society.
